  Pierre-Laurent Aimard will celebrate the 150th birthday of his compatriot Claude Debussy with pianistic fireworks: the complete second volume of the Préludes, complete keyboard artistry. Aimard will combine the Préludes with works by Franz Liszt and Olivier Messiaen. With his sensitive meditations, the latter hearkens back unmistakably to the sound world of Debussy, while the former clearly paved a way towards it: the experimentally oriented Liszt was bent on expanding the possibilities of the keyboard in terms of technique and sonority. This recital promises to prove yet another point: namely, that Aimard is not only one of the most thoughtful pianists of our time, but, simply put, one of the most stunningly virtuosic.
